How to stay motivated during the holidays?

With the end of year holidays approaching, it always seems more difficult for us to stick to healthy eating and fitness habits. To help keep you active with a busy holiday schedule, here are a few tips to stay motivated


Walking is an easy way to remain active and you can do that almost anywhere. Take the opportunity to walk and see places if its your first time in that country, opt for the stairs instead of the elevator, and try to make it a point to go for a walk after dinner

Take the opportunity to walk and see places if it’s your first time in a new country. Opt for the stairs instead of the elevator and try to make it a point to go for a walk after dinner. This helps with digestion, especially if meal times are later than your routine back home.

Keep workouts short yet challenging

With our full schedules around the end of the year, some of us may find it harder to stick to longer workouts. Usually, short workouts are ideally 20 minutes. Research has even suggested that a short series of intense exercising can boost the metabolism.

Take time for yourself

Besides the fact that exercising is good for us, staying active can help us get rid of stress and lower its impact on our overall mental and physical wellbeing.

Rest and restoration

Whether it’s the number of hours we sleep on average daily, or a power nap we can introduce to give us a mid-day boost, today’s fast paced lifestyle negatively affects the amount of rest we get. Taking a bit more ‘me’ time is important to our overall mental and physical wellbeing.



It is also important to regain inner balance and manage the stressors we face daily. Doing meditation, a yoga class, or even a stretching class can help maintain our balance, energy, and keep us more grounded.

Setting goals

A final area that will help us feel happier and healthier is having focus and setting goals. Change comes across as scary to many of us, but it is very possible to establish, with a stronger focus and taking time to evaluate where we are now and where we would like to be or what part of our lives needs change or improvement.

Building baby steps towards a bigger goal is less overwhelming and seeing the finish line suddenly becomes less scary!

Make sure you take time each day to relax and clear your mind between all the work, cooking, shopping and hosting. It is crucial to your wellbeing to relax and clear your mind.
